Unlock your path to Bulgarian residency

Compared with other EU programmes, the Bulgaria Golden Visa includes a pre-approval stage handled by the Bulgarian Investment Agency. This is a standard, non-discriminatory process; there are no nationality restrictions as long as applicants satisfy the standard criteria. The stage takes about 4–10 weeks, after which you can make the investment.

Documentation

Pre-approval document checklist

All investors are required to submit the following standard documents.

  1. 1Valid passport copy
  2. 2CV
  3. 3Professional and investment activity documents (if available)
  4. 4Certified and legalised power of attorney
  5. 5Certificate of no criminal record issued within the last 2 months
  6. 6Bank reference confirming a minimum balance of €512,000 in a EUR account held in a FATF-compliant jurisdiction
  7. 7AML declaration
  8. 8PEP declaration

Bank account requirements

Applicants seeking the Bulgaria Golden Visa must provide a bank reference from a credit institution located in a FATF-compliant jurisdiction, and the account must be in euros (€). If you do not currently hold an account in euros, you will need to open one. Please contact our team to confirm that your jurisdiction is FATF-compliant.

Note: accounts held with financial institutions such as investment brokerage firms, investment funds or wealth management companies are not considered equivalent to credit institutions. Only licensed banks are recognised as credit institutions for this purpose.

AML & PEP compliance

Applicants are required to support their bank reference with documented proof of the source of their income. There are no restrictions on the type of income; however, each source must be supported by written evidence, and where applicable, the documents should be legalised.

For example, if the investment funds were generated through dividends, you must provide a legalised financial statement for the year in which the dividends were distributed, along with a resolution approving the dividend distribution.

Similar documentation requirements apply to politically exposed persons (PEPs). You must declare if you are a PEP or are closely associated with one.

Document legalisation

Documents must be certified and legalised in accordance with the jurisdiction in which they were issued. Some jurisdictions are exempt from legalisation requirements due to bilateral agreements that waive the need for legalising government-issued documents. Others may require an apostille, while some may require full legalisation through an embassy or consulate. Please consult our team to determine the appropriate legalisation process for your specific case.
